Cryotherapy Skin Treatment
Safe, Effective Removal of Benign and Pre-Cancerous Skin Lesions
What is Cryotherapy?
Cryotherapy is a non-invasive medical treatment that uses extreme cold to safely and precisely destroy unwanted or abnormal skin tissue. At SkinCheck Australia, our clinicians use the Cryo Freeze Pen — a medical-grade device that delivers controlled bursts of nitrous oxide or liquid nitrogen directly onto targeted skin lesions.
This process freezes and eliminates abnormal cells, allowing healthy skin to regenerate naturally. Cryotherapy is quick, gentle and highly effective for a wide range of benign and pre-cancerous skin conditions.
What Lesions Can Be Treated?
Cryotherapy is suitable for the treatment of many benign (non-cancerous) and pre-cancerous skin lesions, including:
- Cherry angiomas (small red vascular spots)
- Skin tags
- Seborrhoeic keratoses (age or sun spots)
- Actinic keratoses (pre-cancerous sun damage)
- Dermatofibromas (firm nodules under the skin)
- Benign moles (assessed and confirmed as non-suspicious)
- Other superficial lesions approved by your dermoscopist
Every lesion is carefully examined under dermoscopy to ensure it is suitable for cryotherapy before treatment is performed.
How Cryotherapy Works
Cryotherapy works by rapidly freezing the water inside abnormal skin cells. This causes cellular destruction, leading to the removal of the lesion while leaving surrounding healthy skin unaffected.
Step-by-Step Process:
Most treatments take less than 10 minutes and require no anaesthetic or downtime.
Pricing
We offer clear, transparent pricing for all cryotherapy treatments:
$30 per lesion
$150 per Cryo cartridge (treats up to 12 lesions)
Your dermoscopist will discuss your options during consultation to ensure you receive the best value for your treatment plan.
***Please be advised these costs do not include skin check- unless otherwise advised all lesions must have a skin check prior to treatment.
Aftercare and Healing
After cryotherapy, the treated area may appear red, slightly swollen, or blistered for a few days. This is a normal part of the healing process.
Post-Treatment Care:
- Keep the area clean and dry for 24 hours.
- Do not pick or scratch the treated lesion.
- Apply a gentle antiseptic or healing ointment if needed.
- Protect the area from sun exposure until healed.
Most lesions heal completely within 7–14 days, leaving smooth, clear skin.
