Why Park Rangers Need Regular Skin Checks
Safe Work Australia says outdoor workers get between five and ten times more sun exposure than indoor workers. That makes skin checks especially relevant for park rangers. We see individuals at our clinics, and we work with businesses that want to arrange checks for their staff.

Sun Exposure on the Job
Ranger work covers patrols, track maintenance, fire management, wildlife work and visitor education, often in exposed coastal or open country. It is outdoor work in every season, and days in the field rarely fit around the UV forecast.
What to Expect from Your Park Rangers Skin Check
Booking a check as a park ranger is simple. You can come in on your own, or your employer can arrange checks for the team. Either way you get:
- A head-to-toe check using dermoscopy
- MoleMax HD photos of any spots worth tracking
- A secure record for future comparison
- Clear advice on what to watch for at work and at home

Areas We Check Closely
When we check park rangers, we pay particular attention to:
- Face, ears and lips
- Back of the neck
- Forearms and hands
- Shoulders when working without a long-sleeve shirt
- Reflected UV on beaches, water and pale sand
If you notice a new spot, a sore that does not heal or a mole that changes, book a check rather than waiting.
Workplace Skin Checks for Park Rangers
If you employ park rangers, the best protection is a mix of controls on the job and access to regular skin checks. Safe Work Australia recommends both, and points out that checks do not replace sun protection.
For parks agencies, the practical controls are uniforms with long sleeves and broad-brim hats, sunscreen in every vehicle and field kit, shade for breaks, and scheduling heavy outdoor tasks for the cooler ends of the day where possible.
To arrange skin checks for your team, call 1800 443 972 and we will talk through numbers, timing and which clinic suits.

Park Rangers Skin Check FAQs
I wear a uniform with long sleeves. Do I still need a check?
Uniforms help a lot, but your face, ears, neck and hands are still exposed every day, and those are common places for skin cancer.
Is a skin check bulk billed?
No. We are a specialised skin screening service, and skin checks are not covered by Medicare. If you are referred for surgery, a Medicare rebate applies to that part.
Does a skin check replace sunscreen and protective clothing?
No. Safe Work Australia is clear that skin checks are not an alternative to sun protection. They work together.
